Today’s employer advice is from Paul Shapiro, CEO at The Better Meat Co. Paul Shapiro is the author of the national bestseller Clean Meat: How Growing Meat Without Animals Will Revolutionize Dinner and the World, the CEO of The Better Meat Co., a four-time TEDx speaker, and the host of the Business for Good Podcast.
Q: Tell us about your organization.
The Better Meat Co. is on a mission to reduce humanity’s footprint on the planet by slashing our reliance on animals for food. By turning microbes into meat, we can satisfy humanity’s “meat tooth” with a tiny fraction of the resources needed to raise and slaughter farm animals.
Q: What advice would you give to people in midlife who want to transition to a green job?
The best advice I can offer is simply to start. Ray Kroc didn’t start building McDonald’s until age 50. It’s never too late to shift gears, but we never know how much time we have left, so don’t delay.
Q: What are the skills that you believe will be required most in the short-medium term in your industry?
The skills I’m always looking for are curiosity about creating new innovations, and of course a relentless work ethic and drive to make a difference in the world.
