Today’s employer advice is from Russell Seifert, CEO of Creative Solar USA.
Q: Tell us about your organization.
We are a 13 going on 14 year-old company. Out of Kennesaw (Northwest metro ATL) Turn Key EPC Solar developer. Meaning we consult and do every step of the process to interconnection. Residential to Utility Scale. We have grown to over 43 on staff with multiple 1099’s.
Q: What advice would you give to people in midlife who want to transition to a green job?
Online classes just give you some of the knowledge you need; so does just on the job. It’s a combination of both. You’re going to find tasks you’re not keen on and others you will. Give it time to settle in. Don’t kick back the first thing you’re introduced to. We find at our company that if a person is willing to do installs, regardless of their gender and skill set, they learn the basics and then are able to “walk the walk and talk the talk”! People then get the whole idea of what is involved and the various skill sets needed to making solar viable.
Q: What are the skills that you believe will be required most in the short-medium term in your industry?
Installers, electricians that are willing to learn more. Roll up the sleeves and work hard. Work very hard! The final thing … Expect the unexpected in this industry. Constant change.
