A useful learning and networking opportunity for anyone interested in buildings: The World Green Building Week: Estates and Facilities free webinar on September 13.
World Green Building Week is one of the largest campaigns created to accelerate the development of sustainability within built environments across the globe.
The global built environment is responsible for almost 40% of global energy-related carbon emissions and 50% of extracted materials. By 2050, 1.6 billion urban dwellers will be regularly exposed to extreme high temperatures, which causes droughts and wildfire, and over 800 million people living in more than 570 cities will be vulnerable to sea level rise and coastal flooding. So, it’s clear to see how sustainability and the built environment need to go hand in hand.
Many hospitals and health care facilities were established before World War II when sustainability was not a consideration in the planning and construction. Because of the historic infrastructure and structures, many of our current healthcare institutions are now facing challenges in fulfilling their sustainability objectives.
To support World Green Building Week, we will be inviting a panel of industry experts together to discuss how the NHS can transform existing estates and facilities, and work together on shaping innovations in green construction for a greener future.
